Homework for Nov. 9 Meeting

The boys should finish 1B (page 28), do Achievement 4a (page 43) and 4c (page 49) – more details are on the blog (http://www.blogspot.com – password is cubscout5). If they finish, and want to move ahead, they can do Achievement 5 – sharing your world with wildlife – it’s easy to do. Remember – we’re covering most, but not all achievements at our den meetings.

Religious Emblem Placement

EMBLEMS RECEIVED AS A YOUTH
All Scouts and Scouters who received a religious emblem in their youth may wear the universal youth religious emblem square knot (No. 5014) centered above the left uniform pocket flap, if it is the only knot. Otherwise it may be placed in any of the positions above the left uniform pocket flap for knots. Scouts and Scouters who received the award as a Tiger Cub or Cub Scout should also wear the gold Cub Scout device (No. 5103C) centered on the knot to indicate the award was received as a Cub Scout. Those receiving a religious award as a Webelos Scout should wear the gold Webelos device (No. 5103K) centered on the knot. Similarly Scouts and Scouters who received the award as a Boy Scout should wear the gold Boy Scout Device (No. 5103D centered on the knot. Those who earned the award as an Explorer should wear the gold Exploring Device (No. 5103G) centered on the knot. If more than one emblem was earned as a youth, only one knot is worn and any combination of the appropriate devices may be worn centered on the knot. Explorers or Scout leaders who received the award as a Girl Scout, Camp Fire member or 4-H Member may also wear the universal religious emblem knot (No. 5014), but without any device.

Whittling Chip Badge Placement

The Insignia Guide says that all temporary insignia are "worn centered on the right pocket and must not exceed the dimension of the seams of the pocket, nor extend higher than the lowest tip of the pocket flap." (See http://www.scouting.org/media/insigniaguide/03.aspx).

If you were to center the Whittlin Chip on the right pocket, it might look a bit silly because of the shape, but perfectly OK according to the Insignia Guide.

October 19 Meeting Change - Important!

Hi folks - it looks like we'll be unable to meet at Jane Ryan on Monday, October 19 during the day as planned so our Bear scout meeting will now be on Monday, October 19 at 6:45 pm - Location to be announced - I'm searching for a place for us and will let you know asap.

Our Bears will be hosting the November 2 pack meeting - the theme will be Heroes and the boys will be working on this theme at our October 19 meeting - very important for them to attend. Additionally, all Bear scouts should attend the November pack meeting so mark your calendars! It will be fun and they won't want to miss it.

Religious Emblem Question

According to JoAnn Z., our scouts can receive the religious badge we discussed the other night and should sew/iron it on to their uniform. This may be earned by any Cub Scout. Once they earn the badge, they always have it. They can continue to earn different pins for the various levels. However, there is a particular way it should be attached. We will show parents how at the October pack meeting.
